Create a custom pair of sneakers!
Make your own fantastic quilted sneakers! You don’t need a special sewing machine or hard-to-find tools. Designer Joan Radell will guide you through the steps of creating your own custom sneakers from your favorite fabrics.
Choose your fabrics to reflect your personal style or make a statement. You only need 3 fat quarters worth of fabric!* With Joan’s kit, you will make a pair of unique, one-of-a-kind sneakers.
First, choose and pre-quilt your fabrics , complete directions are in the supply list.
Then, in class you will cut and finish your components, install eyelets, and use traditional shoemaking techniques to attach your beautiful, quilted uppers to high-quality sneaker soles.
The registration fee of $225.00 includes the kit (sneaker soles, padded insoles, and the sneaker pattern and guide), and special event lunch. There is some prep work see downloads.
Additional supplies are required; please see the supply list for more information.
Each student is responsible for providing their shoe size, and indicating whether they prefer black or white soles. This information is required by Sept 20th.
This class is not eligible for any discounts on supplies.
Special Cancellation Policy: Cancellations are not refundable but are transferable if received before the Sept 20th, kit order date deadline. Non Refundable after Sept 20th.
Please make sure that you indicate what size shoe you need, and if you prefer black or white soles when you register!
Please note that soles are not available for sizes under 36 (US 5.5-6), and above 47 ( US 13.5-14).
Supply List:
• 1⁄4 yard of quilt weight cotton for upper; Fat Quarter preferred (18” x 22”)
• 1⁄2 yard of quilt weight cotton for lining; Fat Quarter preferred (18” x 22”)
• Quilt weight cotton for tongue; 10” square is plenty.
• 4 pieces of 1.75” wide bias strips, each 18” long. Your bias can match or contrast with your exterior—your choice!
• Sewing Machine
• Sewing notions – pins/quilting clips, tape measure, etc.
• Matching thread
• Marking pencil
• ¾ yard Pellon Double Sided Fusible Foam
• ¾ yard Pellon SF101 *for sizes over 42, you will need a half-yard of upper and lining fabric.
