You may have noticed some new machines hanging around Bits ‘n Pieces. Not only do we have our wonderful Handi Quilter longarm machines, we’re now a dealer for the iconic Necchi sewing machines. Necchi sewing machines stand shoulder to shoulder with the Singer, BERNINA, and Brother machines of the world. They’re not some new kid on the block; Necchi sewing machines have brought innovation to the sewing industry for over 100 years.
A Little History of Necchi
The story of Necchi begins in Italy in 1919 when Vittorio Necchi founded the company and used his family’s iron foundry to start manufacturing sewing machines. By 1930, Necchi was exporting 2,000 machines internationally and in 1932 Necchi developed the first domestic sewing machine with zig-zag stitches. This allowed at-home stitchers to create many decorative stitches, like mending and buttonholes, by machine.
Necchi not only advanced sewing machine technology, they were known for creating beautiful machines. In 1954, Necchi introduced the Supernova. The Supernova was the first automatic machine and was so beautiful that Sophia Loren was the spokesperson!
Over the years, Necchi continued to innovate, introducing features such as automatic threading, built-in buttonholers, and decorative stitches, and celebrated 100 years while maintaining the exceptional quality that made them a household name.
